The last hair care routine I posted was in 2016 and ALOT has changed since then so I've decided to write an updated routine. If you have been following me since then you will know that in 2015 I dyed my hair dark brown from blonde. I have been doing this consistently for around 5 years now.
In my previous post I was talking about how I would use the Herbal Essences colour range and how it was the best for my hair however this has now changed. I now currently alternate between a hair dresser recommended oil based shampoo and a cheaper drugstore brand. As much as I would love to be only able to the more expensive brand it is quite a fair amount of money so not something I can afford regularly.
Unless I have plans to go out mid week I will usually only wash my hair 1-2 times a week. This is something I have been doing the past couple of years and honestly my hair is in a much better condition so if you are able to leave your hair longer between washes I would definitely recommend doing so.
In between washes I will use a dry shampoo to refresh my hair. I have tried out many dry shampoos over the years and the one I am currently using is a supermarket brand. It most definitely isn't the best dry shampoo money can get however I would say I prefer it to everyone's favourite 'Batiste'.
Unlike my skin my hair does tend to get oily fairly easily and I was recommended by my hairdresser to use an oil based shampoo to try combat this. So a couple of times a year I will treat myself to some products from the Kevin Murphy range. My favourites are the Angel Wash and Angel Rinse products which are created for fine coloured hair.
When I am not using them I will use the Garnier ultimate blends Shampoo which contains Argan Oil and cranberry and honestly smells incredible!
The only other product I use on my hair I use a couple times a month just to refresh my hair is a hair mask. The one I am currently using is from the Garnier Ultimate blends range which contains Aloe Vera and Coconut.

Last October after wanting to dye my hair for years (and I really do mean years!) I finally decided to buy some dye and dye my hair. If your interested you can read about my experience with dying my hair here.
Ever since dying my hair I've had to change quite alot of products I use on my hair in order to ensure my hair remains in the best condition possible.
Before dying my hair I would use a range of different shampoos and conditioners and would be constantly changing the products I used, however since dying my hair I've found 2 different shampoos which are not only amazing for your hair but they are also great for keeping the colour looking fresher for longer. I usually find myself alternating between the LOréal Paris Elvive Colour Protect Caring shampoo and the Herbal Essences Ignite my Colour shampoo.

During a normal week I will wash my hair 2-3 times maximum however I will often use dry shampoo if I feel the need to. Also I always try to let my hair air dry if I have the time although this can take a while when you have long hair!
Since dying my hair I've been using conditioner ALOT more than I used to and have also been trying to leave my hair longer in between washes as this helps to preserve the colour for longer.
Every 3-4 weeks I will touch up my roots using The LOréal Excellence hair colourant in the shade #4 Natural Dark Brown. Whilst touching up my roots I also use some of the colourant on the rest of my hair just to freshen up the colour and make sure it looks as natural as possible.
And that's basically everything I do to keep my hair at it's best (well... somewhere close..)

Ever since I was younger I have always had blonde hair and blue eyes. (Cue photo montage!...)
After having the same hair colour for almost 20 years I decided it was finally time for a change! I had wanted to dye my hair for a long time but could never decide on the colour I wanted and to be honest I was terrified I would end up messing it up and I would end up with some crazy coloured hair but I decided that it was now or never.
I spent hours upon hours researching different ways of dying your hair and different techniques people found worked for them. It was during this research that I found out the risks of dying your hair because of the chemical involved, I'd be lying if I said this didn't worry me! However I knew that dying my hair was definitely something I wanted to do so despite my worries I decided to go ahead.
The most important piece of advice I can give to someone who is thinking of dying their hair at home instead of having it done professionally is to read the instructions that come with the dye carefully and ALWAYS carry out a skin test for 48 hours before dying your hair. This is so important and should be done even if you've used the colour before as ingredients in the product may have been changed since you last dyed your hair.
I did use 2 different colours to get the final colour this was because after the first colour I decided that I still wanted to go darker and colour was similar to my natural hair colour. I have included photos below that show the final result from both hair colours.
